Patricia Eckersley
What is your role at the school and how long have you been a part of the team/OLW? I have been a school officer at OLW for 19 years. I have supported teachers and students across all year levels. What do you love most about your job? Each day, I have the opportunity to learn from others and offer my skills and experience to support teachers and students at OLW. As a school officer, I provide support for students with diverse learning needs under the direction and supervision of the teacher, to support the achievement of educational outcomes from prep to year 7. What do you enjoy the most about working at OLW? What makes our school community special to you? While working at OLW, I am presented with new challenges which require patience, understanding and problem solving, as well as a sense of humour. We work as a team to support each other to provide a caring and positive learning environment. Our school community is special to me because it is based on the teachings of the Catholic faith. Our community is based on respect and treating others as they would like to be treated. Can you share a memorable moment/experience you have had while working at OLW? At the OLW swimming carnival quite a number of years ago, I was watching a freestyle race with parents and other OLW staff. One competitor was well behind the other students. The crowd cheered as each swimmer crossed the finish line, but the loudest cheer was saved for the student who came last. Even though he felt like giving up, he kept trying and gave his all to the end of the race. What are you passionate about? I have a keen interest in working with students in groups and individually to become independent readers and writers. What do you enjoy doing outside of work? I enjoy spending time with my family, friends and our cavoodle, Roscoe. I also love playing the piano and running at Sandgate. |
